Shopmobility are proud to be taking part in Eastbourne’s first ever Disabled Access Day
Eastbourne is holding its first Disabled Access Day at The Beacon on Saturday March 16.
The aim of the day is to encourage people with disabilities to get out and about somewhere new and enjoy new experiences at the same time.
Disabled Access Day is a national initiative that was launched in 2015, but it is the first time it has been held in Eastbourne. There will be a variety of different displays in The Beacon, from 10am to 4pm, offering the opportunity to try adapted sports and arts and crafts, plus the chance to talk to local charities who offer support, guidance and information on a range of topics.
Health & Wellbeing organisations will be in the Centre including Support with Confidence, East Sussex Community Information Service, East Sussex Fire & Rescue and Joint Community Rehabilitation.
Visitors will be able to see what Shopmobility offers plus the chance to try a wheelchair accessible vehicle.
Ian Westgate, Chair of Eastbourne Access Group, said:“Disabled Access Day is all about creating opportunities to try something new in a fun, safe and welcoming way. The range of displays gives a taste of what is available in Eastbourne.” “The theme this year is “You and somewhere new” and we’re really thrilled to be holding this event for the first time in Eastbourne and would encourage people to come along and take part. We really want people with disabilities to be confident in going out within the community knowing they will find a warm welcome.”
Bill Plumridge, Manager of The Beacon, said: “We are delighted to be hosting the town’s first Disabled Access Day and we really hope it raises awareness of the help that is available to anyone with a disability.”
The day is being organised by the Eastbourne Access Group with the support of Eastbourne Disability Involvement Group and The Beacon.
Other events will be taking place in the town with Barclays Bank showcasing services for people with disabilities and a Stagecoach accessible bus will be available to try out at Bankers’ Corner.
